12 year-old Kid Chef Eliana Releases New Cookbook!

12 year-old Kid Chef Eliana releases her second Cookbook titled “Cool Kids Cook: Louisiana”
Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo, Cornbread, White Chocolate Bread Pudding… Hungry yet? From the colorful city of New Orleans comes a rising culinary star, a 12 year old girl who cooks from the heart.

Kid Chef Eliana is an extraordinary young girl who is an accomplished cook, an author of two cookbooks, and the host of her own weekly radio show on VoiceAmerica, the Internet’s largest talk radio network with over 9 million monthly listeners. She has shared the cooking stage with Chef John Besh, filmed with Chef Aaron Sanchez (Food Network) and Chef Carla Hall (ABC’s The Chew), and appeared on The Wendy Williams Show. Notable guests on her radio show feature some of the top chefs in

the nation including Jose’ Andres (Made in Spain on PBS), Andrew Zimmern (Bizarre Foods on Travel Channel), Pastry Chef Gale Gand, and so many more.

Eliana’s new full-color, hardcover cookbook entitled Cool Kids Cook: Louisiana (Pelican Publishing) showcases food from her native Louisiana with simplified recipes the whole family can cook together. Eliana says, “It’s important to preserve your family’s traditions and culture. My whole family taught me how to cook and food is what brings us together. I want to encourage kids like me to get in the kitchen, taste new foods, and learn their family’s stories through the meals they cook.” Octavia Books in New Orleans will host Kid Chef Eliana’s book debut party on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1:30pm.

A current honoree of New Orleans’ Gambit Weekly’s “40 Under 40” award, Eliana was also a competitor in SuperChef Kids, a national webisode series produced by the creators of Iron Chef®. Eliana also received a letter of recognition from United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu for her achievements as a young chef and was chosen by Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority to receive an award for her preservation of Louisiana culture. She is an Ambassador for Healthy Fare for Kids, an organization that helps restaurants across the nation add healthy options to their kids’ menus. During Superbowl XLVII, Eliana worked with the Taste of the NFL to help “kick hunger” with a special edition of her radio show and media coverage of the event.

Despite such a full plate, Eliana still manages to maintain an “A” average in school and spend time hanging out with her family and friends. Her mission is to encourage families to cook together and to inspire kids to become culinary explorers. As Eliana always says, “Cool kids cook and get creative in the kitchen!”

Mr. Spenard is the President of World Talk Radio LLC / Voice America. Perry Damone and Jeff Spenard sat down to discuss a new channel that Voice America was thinking of launching; Voice America Kids. This was the beginning of a collaborative effort between World Talk Radio/ Voice America and KDSTR Radio Corp. The KidStar team consulted with Jeff Spenard and his unbelievably talented staff for several months to create and launch the VAK network with a short term goal of twenty Voice America Kids network shows to expand to one hundred shows in the next twenty four months. VAK also collaborates with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children offering a 24/7 on air beacon that looks for missing kids across the country and around the world. “Our Future is Missing, Voice America Kids” is hosted by kids looking for missing kids; to date and as of this writing, “Our Future Is Missing Voice America Kids” alongside incredible nationwide efforts, there have been 14 kids recovered which have been on the VAK airwaves.

Purple Songs Can Fly to VoiceAmerica Kid’s Channel

“Purple Song Cans Fly”, non-profit music program created for pediatric hospital patients, is to begin the broadcast of their very own talk radio show on the VoiceAmerica Kid’s Channel
PHOENIX - Voice America Talk Radio Network, Internet broadcasting pioneer, producing and syndicating online audio and video, is pleased to announce that the creative music-based non-profit organization known as Purple Songs Can Fly now has its very own self-titled radio show on the VoiceAmerica Kid’s Channel, which will air Mondays at 3PM Pacific/5PM Central/6PM Eastern.

Purple Songs Can Fly is a unique program that was founded in March 2006 to provide a musical outlet for the many children being treated for cancer and blood disorders at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers. In this program, which is the first of its kind, the children work with founder, Anita Kruse and other professional composers to write and record their own songs. In an in-house studio, composers work with the children and their siblings to write, record, and burn songs to disc within short sessions. Since the first song was written in 2006, there have been over 396 songs recorded through Purple Songs Can Fly.

Now, the VoiceAmerica Kids Network is lucky enough to have Zachary and Emily hosting their very own show, talking about the great music that is created by these young talents. Zachary and Emily are patients in the Cancer Center at Texas Children’s Hospital that have inspiring perspectives on life, and have written many songs with Purple Songs Can Fly. The show focuses on children that are undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments for cancer, and how they are helped through music. The show also features interviews with doctors, nurses, friends, family, special guests, and many children who have written songs during their treatment.

On their November 26th, episode co-hosts, Zachary and Emily, interviewed Carol Herron, director of the Arts in Medicine program at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers, and cancer survivor, Alex Harkins, who discussed her visit to the Teens Choice Awards and her appearance on Fox's "Kaleidoscope" Thanksgiving Day show singing with Olivia Newton-John and the other children of Purple Songs Can Fly. This show's songs include: Gracie's "I'm a Work of Art; Sofia's "These are the Happiest Things; Alex's "I Can"; and, Olivia Newton-John's "Hope is Always Here", written and performed with the children of Purple Songs Can Fly.

A new episode of “Purple Songs Can Fly” will be aired every Monday at 3PM Pacific/5PM Central/6PM Eastern. All new and previous episodes can be found at www.voiceamerica.com/show/2147/purple-songs-can-fly.

The Purple Songs Can Fly mission is to positively affect the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families through the writing and recording of their original songs. “There is a song inside every single child that is waiting to be heard.”

About Emily Freeman and Zack Tavlin:
Emily is a 17 year old high school Junior who loves all things pertaining to performance, purple, and her pet pug, Moochie. Prior to diagnosis with a rare cancerous brain tumor in June of 2009, she led an active life as an accomplished ballerina. She took ballet from the age of four, and, in 2006, auditioned for the role of Clara in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes. After landing the role in Houston in 2006, she went on to a repeat performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in 2007. Due to vision loss from the tumor, short term memory loss, and other damaging endocrine effects from treatment, she is hanging up her ballet shoes for now.

However, as providence would have it, one day while waiting for an appointment at Texas Children's Hospital, she met Aaron who worked with Purple Songs Can Fly, and helped her record her very first song. This chance meeting opened a door to work with Purple Songs, a perfect match for Emily, which has given her a much needed outlet to sing, perform, and continue to touch the lives of others with her exuberant zest for life. She is beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to learn radio and reach a brand new audience through Voice America Kids!

Zack Tavlin began with "Purple Songs Can Fly" back in 2006. His illness and the beginning of Purple Songs Can Fly almost directly coincide. Through this organization, he has had the opportunity to write songs for prominent heart surgeons, astronauts, musicians and even popular athletes! He continues to write and record songs, both to spread his love of Purple Songs Can Fly and to express his heartfelt joy for each day he is blessed to be alive. Zack is extremely excited to be on the radio and looks forward to interviewing many interesting people.

About Severson Sisters:
Severson Sisters is a bullying-solutions and self-compassion non-profit that was founded by Carrie Severson in January of 2011 to help address the significant impact of bullying, specifically, among girls. A child who feels unsafe, humiliated, and degraded suffers devastating effects, including lower grades, low self-esteem and social withdrawal, which often leads to depression, substance abuse and/or suicidal thoughts. Severson Sisters uses creative arts as a powerful tool for helping girls build self-esteem, develop social skills to support healthy relationships and mitigate their need for a false sense of superiority through bullying tactics. About Voice America Kids Radio Network
In August of 2010 Perry Damone Founder and Chairman of the KidStar Radio Network met an incredible gentleman with an extraordinary vision by the name of Jeff Spenard. We have now met that short term goal of 31 all kid run network shows covering topics from sports, to politics, to school issues, to fashion, travel and even a show that is hosted by two twelve year olds called “Life At Twelve” which started as “Life At Ten.” Currently we have shows that are focused on communities and critical issues that face our youth today such as “Purple Songs Can Fly” which originates from Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston hosted by kids going through life challenging treatments. We are proud and excited to welcome a brand new show that will have positive impact with our worldwide community of kids called “The Super Girl Guide Radio Show” launching January 2013.
