Melissa Etheridge, award winning artist, joins Dr. Pat Baccili, award winning host of The Dr. Pat Show, when she speaks about her latest studio album: Fearless Love. Dr. Pat comments: “Get Ready to Take a Fearless Journey with Melissa Etheridge” Tune in on Thursday September 16, 2010, streamed from 8-9am (PT)/11-noon (ET) on VoiceAmerica’s Variety Channel (http://www.voiceamericavariety.com/) .
About Melissa Etheridge:
In February 2007, Melissa Etheridge celebrated a career milestone with a victory in the “Best Song” category at the Academy® Awards for “I Need to Wake Up,” written for the Al Gore documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth. Over the course of her more than two decades as a performer and songwriter, Etheridge has shown herself to be an artist who has never allowed “inconvenient truths” to keep her down. After completing high school, Etheridge was accepted as a student at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, but left after only one year to make her way as a performer in Los Angeles. Legend has it that in a chance encounter at a small club in Long Beach with music industry legend and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell she was signed on the spot.
“This album had to be about the songs,” says Melissa Etheridge of her tenth studio album, Fearless Love. This is typical of Melissa, because putting the songs first is one of the hallmarks of her career. From our introduction to her in 1988, and throughout her illustrious career, Etheridge has never forgotten that it all begins with the songs. She has poured everything into those songs and they have served her well.
Baccili is at her best delving into the true meaning of some of the most powerful lyrics written by the rocker and that personal meaning. Baccili comments: “This interview went beyond the obvious “rock is back” chit- chat. The listeners get to hear about healing, passion, the lessons of the journey and the power of this rocker’s music. Fearless Love is one of Etheridge’s best works. Then there’s the tour and watching Etheridge and her band bring the house down. She is better than ever and Love is what she is choosing. ” Etheridge says it best, “Everything is either fear or love.”
Those songs-”Bring Me Some Water,” “Ain’t it Heavy,” “I’m the Only One,” “Come to My Window,” “I Want to Come Over,” “Angels Would Fall,” “I Run for Life” and “I Need to Wake Up” among them-have rewarded her with five Platinum albums (including the multi-Platinum sets Melissa Etheridge, Your Little Secret and the six-million-selling Yes I Am), a pair of Grammys®, an Oscar®, an ASCAP Songwriter of the Year honor and the ASCAP Founders Award.
Easily one of the greatest all-time female rock icons, Melissa Etheridge is also a mother and a cancer survivor. She is an outspoken cultural, political and human rights activist, a thought-provoker and a longtime truth-seeker. “Fearless Love” challenges all of us to not settle, to reach for the lives we desire and Etheridge comes through loud and clear with the message that we all deserve.
