Due to the enormous response to the stop smoking show with Dr. Hal Urschel in October, I have chosen to re air that spectacularly successful show on Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 25, 2010.
The listenership numbers were truly awesome for that show. If you missed it you may listen any time in the archives (October 28 show) or listen live with loved ones on Thanksgiving. As I always say, there is no better way to show true love for another than by caring for their health. The #1 way you can care about someone’s health is to get them to stop smoking. True love & friendship is not about going out for expensive dinners & being drinking buddies. Let’s get over the superficial definition of friendship. Once again:
Smoking is the #1 Lifestyle killer out there.
It contributes to the demise of every organ system in the body. It doesn’t matter if you are not overweight, eat healthy….you are still destroying your health by smoking and killing others with the second hand smoke. You are not being responsible for your family by smoking.
Look, I get it. As I always say I am very blessed I never started smoking, so I do not have to quit smoking. Dr. Urschel provides you with the ways to quit smoking – as he calls it – the comprehensive approach to quitting smoking. Smoking is a physiological addiction – and not treating it that way is setting yourself up for frustration and failure. You know you are going to have to stop smoking – or if its not you and you have someone you love who smokes – quit procrastinating – the smoking has to stop.
I believe Thanksgiving is a profound time to re air this show. Are we truly thankful for this beautiful country we have? Take a look around – we have a great thing going. However, with all of the health epidemics – smoking, obesity & diabetes – I believe we are not learning from our dinosaur friends. Go to my site and check out my favorite Gary Larson cartoon.

All of these lifestyle killers are very controllable – but too many have become immune to our pleas of living a healthier lifestyle. I know it is hard to lose weight & stop smoking. But you have to always remember keep your eye on the goal. Once you start seeing that fat dwindling away – that becomes your reward and incentive for your hard work. Ask someone who has stopped smoking and they tell you how great it feels to wake up and breathe! How great it feels to ditch that smokers cough!
Look, your family needs you. Nobody wants to live a miserable incapacitated life or die a few decades earlier – if you do see a psychiatrist. BTW – Dr. Urschel is a psychiatrist. As my BELOVED, Dr. Holly Andersen, America’s #1 cardiologist said on my show in August

“Are you going to partner with me or not?” These are her words to her smoking patients coming to her for help with their Cardio Vascular Disease.
Traditional Thanksgiving was not about smoking, drinking beer & watching football games. Thanksgiving was about physical activity (the harvest) & eating wholesome pure foods. It was not about that carcinogenic turkey fryer & drowning our foods in sugary sauces & trans fats. How bout go out an PLAY that football game with your family and friends, make a commitment to stop smoking, and make a healthy Thanksgiving dinner. Email me for ideas if you wish. And of course, listen to my show with Dr. urschel on VoiceAmerica. BTW, Dr. Urschel will be back on December 23 about making it through the holiday season, resolutions & ways to overcome physiological addictions.
And right from our Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin, on her website:
“Americans will be more likely to change their behavior if they have a meaningful reward–something more than just reaching a certain weight or dress size. The real reward is invigorating, energizing, joyous health. It is a level of health that allows people to embrace each day and live their lives to the fullest without disease or disability.”
All of the fantastic researchers & doctors who have been on my show urge us all to find ways to live a healthier lifestyle. These are unnecessary epidemics. Please, let’s truly give thanks on Thanksgiving by making a commitment stop smoking, eat healthy, exercise, & appreciate our beautiful country.
My wish for you today, and every day…
May you get at least 60 minutes of exercise!
